Perceptions from outside the U.S. #2: Italy

Illaria AllegrozziIlaria Allegrozzi works as the Governance and Humanitarian Affairs officer at the Cooperation Office of the Italian Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. I asked her about the Darfur advocacy community in Italy.

Is there an advocacy movement for Darfur in Italy?

Yes. It’s called Italians for Darfur.

What can you tell us about it?

It’s a human rights association based in Rome. I know many people, including journalists and humanitarian workers are involved in it. But honestly, I don’t know whether they succeeded to achieve something or not. The only thing I know is that they campaigned to push the Italian companies not to invest in Sudan. A strategy to exercise financial pressure on Sudan to change its policies.
