Arab League supports Bashir

The Arab Times, Kuwait, reports that the Arab League concluded its Summit in Doha with a resolution in support of Sudanese President Omar Al Bashir: “We reiterate our solidarity with Sudan and our rejection of the measure of the … International Criminal Court against his Excellency (Bashir).”

The Arab Coalition for Darfur, coordinated by five organizations from the region (Social Democratic Forum -Yemen; Al Amal Center to Fight Torture – Sudan;  Al Bahrain Center for Human Rights – Bahrain; The National Organization for Human Rights – Syria; Citizenship Human Rights Organization- Egypt) issued a counter-statement, signed by 15 groups, stating that “There should be no immunity for those who have committed crimes in Darfur.”

I’m trying to get the full text of the Arab League resolution now, but in the meantime, the prolific Wasil Ali at the Sudan Tribune has done an analysis that is worth a read.
