Foreign Policy‘s Colum Lynch highlights the 2008 campaign inside the UN Security Council in support of the International Criminal Court as documented in Fighting for Darfur. The campaign, spearheaded by the small nation of Costa Rica, convinced China and Libya to support a presidential statement backing the ICC: “Costa Rica had calculated, correctly, that China could not afford to cast a veto over Darfur at a time when it was seeking to burnish its international reputation in the lead up to the Olympics.”
